The sign definitely has that 1950's look to it. Faded from time and memory. Does anyone know what the "Rapids" was? A nightclub back then? A movie theater? Or was it always just the name of the parking area?
I have these in History, as the general condition of the surrounding buildings make this area look due for the wrecking ball...or at the very least, the removal of this sign which filled me with enough fascination to expend the time and energy to go find it and photo it for myself.
It's located on New Chardon and Merrimac streets, nearby the Hurley building and the courthouse.
While I really like Jake Wark's version, I thought the saturation was a little too high. In mine, aside from color correction and a little saturation boost, I wanted the drabness of the sign to convey the feeling that it is a faded icon of times past. I think that a car was occupying the spot where Jake stood to get his; my angles are slightly different.
